Miraculous Ladybug - Miraculous Menaces AU: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Miraculous Menaces AU
Chapter Summary:
Alya, Adrien and Marinette:
Tumblr media
Nathalie schemes, Chloe tries to teach Nino insults, and Adrien and Gabriel stumble into Paris' very own vigilante group.
An AU where Chat becomes Hawkmoth's partner in crime. At first, Adrien thought that the day he found out that his father was the supervillain terrorizing the people of Paris was the worst day of his life, but in retrospect, it might have been the one change needed to save his family. Because it was also the day that both of them realized that, when they don't need to be Adrien and Gabriel Agreste, they're both fucking goobers. Follow the adventures of Hawkmoth, Chat Noir, and their reluctant assistant who doesn't get paid enough, Nathalie, as they try to navigate life as a supervillain family. And pray for Ladybug's sanity as she suffers their antics.

Emotion (s5) doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me writing-wise. I think Felix’s plan and execution was weird, but… damn it was FUN. It makes so sense, but if I wasn’t vibing with it the whole episode.
Kagami accidentally insulting Lila (“you’re just a stone”)? Vibing.
A bizarre wealthy-person masquerade as a social commentary? Vibing.
Amelie yelling at Gabriel? Vibing.
“Adrien” and Kagami’s banter before their dance? Vibing.
Marinette dancing with “Adrien,” then immediately getting hostile when she learns he’s Felix? Vibing.
Felix having a Disney-villain style musical number in the streets as he Thanos-snaps everyone? Vibing.
Adrien blowing up at Felix? Vibing. (he’s earned that so bad)
Felix having a mental breakdown on a roof? Vibing.
Plot-wise, I have a few issues, but I can honestly say I am so happy to ignore them because I just had a BLAST watching it. Top-tier episode. 10/10. 5 stars.

Well, I have asked you about Marinette's birthday, because I have the dtrong belife the seria would make way more sence if it plays durring 2 years. It would mean 1 season is 3-4 month (2 episodes raffly a weak). And in Ikari Goesen, Marinette mentiones she was born in the year of the snake, while Kagami is in the dragon. Snake following the dragon, meaning they either has 1 year difference... Or the same age, but Kagami was born around the end of Chinese year, while Marinette in the chinese new year. And I also assume Adrien and Kagami were created almost the same time (and Adrien's birthday is at the very beginimg of the seria, so, September).... This would put Marinette more to late January, early February, being the mark of the chinese new year, but yours feels close enought, considering the seria's nonsensical timeline 😅💜
Yeah. Although I didn't really use the clues you just mentioned. I just used Befana. Since it happens on Marinette's birthday, I just went by that. La Befana is an old woman/witch who delivers gifts to children on January 5/6th.

thinking about the full miraculous au rewrite i will never get around to writing where becoming a miraculous holder always leads to insanity because you are taking a God into your brain for extended periods of time and eventually there's nothing left of you besides that God and it would b eldritch horror esque while giving marinette a valid reason to just go fucking crazy on everyone she wants fr

some potential ways this concept can be utilized:
a no miraculous AU (Marinette doesn't show her face in her videos. Ladybug is her username, and what her subscribers know her as. Chat Noir is... a different youtuber? One of her commenters? Or something)
an Adrien never went to public school AU (Chat Noir has no idea that Ladybug's secret identity has actually been the crafty girl in his phone who helps him sleep by explaining sewing machine mechanics to him. but when he finds out it makes a lot of sense)
canon-adjacent, where Marinette has no idea that Adrien watches her videos/knows about her channel at all. When he tells her that he actually watches and enjoys Every Single One, her heart explodes. Alya never hears the end of it
same as 3, BUT with the bonus: Marinette doesn't show her face on camera. Adrien doesn't know it's her. She finds out that he watches her because he recommends the channel to her. (or, he sees her with one of the crafts she made, and asks her "oh you watch her too?? i love that channel!"
extra bonus for 3 and 4: after Marinette finds out that Adrien watches her channel, she suddenly struggles to record audio for her videos without stammering, because she imagines a sleepy Adrien listening to what she's saying and gets flustered
extra extra bonus: Marinette realizes that Adrien has been the subscriber of hers that always leaves really nice and detailed comments about her videos. And she dies again. (sometimes she gets so flustered she just. Pins his comments. and her subscribers have no idea why this one user's kind-but-otherwise-mundane comments are always being pinned)
Marinette has a shop where she sells some of her crafts. Adrien buys many of them. (bonus if he doesn't know that it's Marinette, and he buys something FOR Marinette FROM Marinette. Marinette tells Alya it's the best gift she's ever gotten from anyone in her life. Alya needs a nap.)
once Adrien and Marinette are together, Adrien is often the person behind the camera, or an off-screen "assistant" who hands her things. (He doesn't appear on camera, typically, because he generally has been trying to get out of the spotlight and also doesn't want to overshadow her crafts with a bunch of "hold up. is that Adrien fucking Agreste at 3:05?" comments)
EVIL EDITION: Marinette's channel gets "cancelled" because, after posting some Ladybug and Chat Noir-themed DIYs, someone posts a call-out that she's dating Hawkmoth's son. and can you believe she refuses to apologize for it :(
youtuber/tiktoker/whatever-type-of-video-influencer marinette, where she makes crazy DIY and craft videos and debunks fake content-farm DIYs. she has a modest but loyal mass of followers that grow by the day as her crafts get increasingly intricate and cool. she catalogues all of her mistakes and is very earnest about the process. adrien falls asleep to videos of her sewing and making cool containers and explaining the mechanisms of the strange devices she makes

Since you've mentioned Scarlet Lady in one of your posts, what's your opinion on it?
I've mentioned before that I'm a big Scarlet Lady fan, which is the only reason that I'm comfortable answering asks like this one. I don't publicly criticize the content of hobby creators. That's wildly inappropriate! Punch up, not down.
The linked post was a general discussion of the adaptation process and how @zoe-oneesama did a fantastic job, so for this one, I'm just going to do some general gushing because I do actually like praising and enjoying things!
Scarlet Lady's chosen format (comic) allows it to have this wonderful conversation with canon where it can rely on the framework of canon to tell it's own story while also using canon for jokes and meta commentary. This means that Scarlet Lady is about as close as fan content can get to a direct reboot because it's able to have moments like this one from the comic's first post:
Tumblr media
[Image description: Adrien standing in his room after transforming into Chat Noir for the first time. He is beaming and his eyes are shining with excitement as he exclaims, "This is gonna be awesome!"]
A single picture that communicates everything we need to know about Adrien getting his miraculous. When I've done this same thing in fanfic, I had to write out the full scene because that's how novels work. You have to give the full picture. With a comic, you can just quickly acknowledge this thing that we all already know and then move on to the new stuff. A picture really is worth a thousand words! (Or, in my case, more like two thousand...)
This allows Zoe to keep the same akumas that we get in canon without her story feeling like a boring rehash because she can focus on what's different in her version. A novelization of the same content would have to show both the stuff that stays the same and the stuff that changes for it to be coherent. That's a lot less fun to read and write. It's why I basically never revisit canon akumas in my own stuff. It's just too derivative for the written word.
This is one of the big reasons that I loved Scarlet Lady. Because it was able to have that more directly conversation with canon, it was able to take canon and say, "hey, why don't we embrace the tone that you established in season one and retell the story with that vibe?" That's something that I desperately wanted to see, but that is totally unsuited to my chosen artistic form. It couldn't be a novel. It had to be a comic.
If you want to know what a true formula show version of Miraculous would look like, Scarlet Lady is it. It does everything that Miraculous should have done:
Sticks to a lighthearted tone where nothing is ever super serious
Keeps Gabriel entirely unsympathetic
Has slow character development and background hints at a bigger plot as the only serial elements, allowing the individual episodes to be their own story while never feeling incomplete or rushed
Allows characters other than Marinette to shine while keeping Marinette as the clear main character
Makes Adrien narratively important
MAKES THE LOVE SQUARE CUTE SO I CAN ACTUALLY SHIP IT
Understands that Lila and Chloe can't coexist as antagonists
Reverses the love square, which is the best way to tell their story. Yes, I will die on my "love diamond" hill. It's a good hill. Come join me. I'll bring cookies.
I could keep going, but you hopefully get my point. While Scarlet Lady is certainly not the only way to do a formula version of canon, it's proof that a formula version does work! You don't have to go the serious route for Miraculous to be successful.
I want to take some time to gush about the ending, but I don't want to spoil it, so I'll put that gushing under a "read more" in case anyone hasn't seen it. I'll finish out this less spoilerish section with this:
I feel like some people are surprised when they learn that I love Scarlet Lady because - as some of you have probably picked up - it is quite different from my ideal version of canon. I'm not sure why that would stop me from enjoying a thing, though. It's important to remember that our personal ideals are not the only way to tell a good story. There are lots of ways to take what canon gave us and make something wonderful! It's part of the reason that I enjoy being in a fandom.
If I only wanted to see my ideal take on canon, then I'd stick to writing/imagining my own stories. But I don't want that! I like seeing alternate takes, too. Scarlet Lady is one of my personal favorites. It's completely different from anything that I'd ever think to write and that's why I'm so glad that it exists! I like being entertained just as much as I like creating my own entertainment and I don't want to only read stories that look like something I'd write. That's boring!
Spoilers below:
I've mentioned before that there are many, many ways to properly handle Chloe's character and Zoe did such a good job with her take on that! Chloe isn't absolved of all the things she did wrong, but she's also treated as a young woman with the ability to change.
While the comic bares the name of Chloe's alter ego, she was the never the main character. She never went on a journey. The story kept her to her shallow season-one self: a petty brat who just wanted attention. It did this because that's who Chloe was in canon and who Chloe needed to be for the comic to work.
The first time we see any complexity from Chloe is in the comic's final few episodes, which was absolutely the right call for Zoe to make! In a recent post, I talked about how the end of a formula show is the only time when you can break the formula in catastrophic ways and that's what Zoe did. She kept Chloe static until it was time to end the story and that's when the formula breaks. That's when Chloe gets depth because, once she has depth, the formula doesn't work.
That depth is not used to redeem Chloe, but to show us that there's hope for Chloe. That this petty brat who we've been dealing with has some serious issues and needs help. Help that she's going to get far away from the people that she's hurt because her issues aren't an excuse for what she's done. They don't erase the harm that she caused. At the same time, understanding her issues makes us hope that she can be better now and Scarlet Lady took a moment to give us that hope. To show us the START of Chloe's true story.
That is the kind of ending that I have wanted to see in so many properties!!! It was so wonderful to finally get one that did this right. A story that understood that full redemption to the team and damnation to death/suffering are extremes on a scale of possibilities. You don't have to go to extremes! You can fall in the middle and the middle is a perfect, natural place for Chloe to land in this kind of story. Fully redeeming or even fully damning Chloe simply doesn't work in lighthearted formula content. It's too big a lift as canon has already demonstrated.
I also loved Zoe's take on Emilie. I've mentioned that I don't like evil Emilie in part because it makes her revival feel like the start of a new story. She's back and she'd bad, so we have to take her down now! But I don't want that. I want the story to end when Gabriel is stopped. Zoe does this by giving us an Emilie that is another perfect middle ground. She matches canon's uncomfortable implications without feeling like a true villain who is a threat to society.

These r my first brainstorm pages for the ot5 civillian miraculous designs! Some of their styles I imagine would shift throughout the hypothetical series, esp Adrien and Marinette.
Adrien dresses like a little businessman, preppy in the most direct sense of the word, was taught to dress well to leave a good impression. Gabriel believes that every man should just wear a suit all the time, so Adrien's sweaters and khakis are a compromise. He basically only wears neutrals.
Marinette dresses in mainly pink, but dabbles in other colors as well. I think she would always have some kind of comfortable fabric on, and customizes her clothing with embroidery and things like that. I think she also just likes all the rainbow colors too.
Chloe is a true y2k girlie, Megan Fox's character's outfits from confessions of a teenage drama queen is her vibe. Blue, yellow, brown/beige, b&w, are her main look.
Ngl I have no idea what to do with Nino he just dresses like a guy. I think he's the most comfortable in looser clothing. I try to incorporate green into his outfits to tie into the turtle miraculous and him being friends with Adrien. His in-show design literally has like every color in it probably to tie all the characters into each other but it kills me to draw that lol. I'm much better with designing women's clothes...
Alya has tumblr girl style. She loves a black graphic tee and takes black and white pictures of her converse. She basically dresses like the girls I thought were so cool in middle school. Like c'mon she has a blog and Balayage hair, what other style would she be? (Also random fact but when I heard of 'twee' style I thought it just meant all Tumblr girl style not just the peter pan collar stuff lol) I think people call it Tumblr grunge as well? idk
I have a different updated lineup of the civilian classmates and I might make individual posts describing their vibe, background, inspiration, and style because fashion is very important w my characters lol. xx
